Media History Assignment: Retro Mobile Gaming Database Entry

You will research an early mobile game and contribute an entry to the Retro Mobile Gaming Database. Your entry will support the Center for Transformative Media's efforts to preserve the history of mobile games.

Assignment Steps:

Register for an Account:

  1. Visit the Retro Mobile Gaming Database platform.
  2. Follow the instructions to create an account using your university email.

Research:

  1. Select an early mobile game that interests you that is not already in the database (e.g., "Disney's Aladdin" game on Gameboy Color devices). This make require you to do some digging to find games for specific consoles or phones. Alternative, it may require you to find examples of handheld games that aren't already in the database.
  2. Use internet research and archival research strategies to gather information about the game's history, development, impact, and reception.

Add Entry:

  1. Write a comprehensive entry about your chosen mobile game.
  2. Attempt to find all relevant criteria, such as: Game Overview, Developer Information, Release Date, Connectivity Type, and the like.
    • Use the Glossary to better understand these terms
  3. Submit your entry through your account on the Retro Mobile Gaming Database platform.

Submission:

  1. Submit your completed database entry directly on the Retro Mobile Gaming Database platform by the due date.
  2. Upload a copy of your entry to [insert learning management system here]

Evaluation: Your entry will be evaluated based on completeness, accuracy, depth of research, and clarity of writing. Originality and contribution to the historical understanding of early mobile games will also be considered.
